Powerful Reasons To Travel Somewhere
It could be for personal growth, trying new food, cultural exposure, witnessing a festival, or an unforgettable adventure.
When I reflect on my years of travel, my mind often takes me towards solo adventures! Not like I hate to travel now with my full-time travel partner (and husband!) But then Solo travel has been my thing for almost a decade. And with each trip I took, outside my home city, I encountered a range of emotions within me. From wonder to discovery to awe and discomfort. Approaching everything with an open mindset took me on a path of self-discovery, made me understand people better, built authentic relationships and introduced me to a world that would have remained obscured otherwise.
But this all is from the learning part! Once you have availed that trip.
The question I often get asked is- What Motivates You To Travel? What made you visit this place?
My answer, always is, Anything! I travelled to places to have the best brownies and coffee, and to try regional food because I had seen a YouTube video about it and it looked delicious. To attend the concert of my favourite artist, to visit family, check out the monument I read about in a book, for the landscape I adored, and for the fine baked items I have heard about from a friend.
I visited Pune for my love of Maharashtrian food and attended Piyush Mishra's concert live in the city. I went to Pangong Lake, Leh to witness the Milky Way. I visited Delhi and opted for flight halts in the city for my love for Chola-Bhatura. I went to Parvati Valley for a week just for the Kheerganga Trek and the himalayan mountain view.
If you are wondering at this point Who on Earth travels for this? Well, I do!
I never had a mainstream answer to, ‘Why do You Love To Travel?’. I like to travel far because it makes me fulfil my wishes. Which is to be in the moment and avail the best of it. I always believe that material possessions come and go, but experiences stay with you forever. And if you have travelled miles just to make your pallets happy or to meet your favourite person, then you are enriching your life for years to come. With stories and experiences like no other.
Picture yourself sharing stories of your adventures with friends and family, reliving the laughter, wonder, and excitement. These memories are priceless investments that will bring joy long after your souvenir magnets gather dust.
And while I am at it, let me tell you that Travel sparks my creativity like no other.
My moments of feeling low on creativity are overcome by the change of scenery. And I bet it can do wonders for your creative spark. Surround yourself with delicious food, breathtaking architecture, vibrant landscapes, or the raw beauty of nature. Any kind of travel will expose you to new ideas, ignite your imagination, and fuel your passions. You might return home with a renewed sense of purpose and a notebook brimming with creative ideas.
On my trip to Kerala, I learnt a new favourite dish that became a staple in my kitchen. I learnt some powerful phrases in Mangalore, that helped me communicate with ease in Bangalore.
My first trip ever to Himachal wasn’t just a vacation; it was when I was at my lowest and unknowingly took the path of self-discovery. There was no reason to travel. But just a need to change the scenery. I took the state bus and got down at a non-touristy small town in Himachal Pradesh, India. Standing amid a vibrant culture so different from my own, I began to question what truly defines a “good life.” Surrounded by a strong sense of community, I couldn’t help but wonder if my comfortable house, filled with material possessions, and a 6-figure salary with a 9–5 job, masked a deeper loneliness. Was my life, for all its advantages, missing something essential?
This existential question became a recurring theme throughout my travels. Venturing into cultures with diverse socioeconomic backgrounds and customs forced me to confront my own cultural biases. Witnessing suspicion towards outsiders made me understand the complex relationship between heritage, values, and acceptance. It was a realization that not everyone embraces diversity with open arms.
Despite this, my wanderlust remains strong. Travel, with all its introspective nudges, continues to be my passion.
Start planning your next adventure, big or small. Because wherever you choose to go, the powerful reasons to travel will transform you in ways you never imagined.
